Hurricane season

Journalism is changing. Layoffs have hit almost every newspaper in the country.  My employer is no exception.

So far I have survived. My nerves are still twisted because I love my job. I REALLY love my job. My internal debate is how to deal with the risk of layoffs. Do I look for greener pastures? Green grass is not an easy find in this economy.

Some media experts talk as if  full-time journalism will fade away.  I just don’t see how that is possible and I think it’s a bit fatalistic to think that.  What’s happened to innovation and the American can-do attitude? Roll up your sleeves and get your butt in gear. People still need and want news. The form will follow function at some point.

How long will this storm last? Do I ride out the hurricane or evacuate for higher ground. I’d rather stand on the side of innovation, but it all boils down to  ‘we’ll see what happens’ attitude. Wish me luck.
