Karen Wink is a multimedia photojournalist who lives and works in Southwest Louisiana. She has a passion for telling stories through traditional photography, video and audio.

Wink works for the American Press, an award-winning daily newspaper in Lake Charles, La. Since 2008, she has earned more than 10 awards for both photography and multimedia journalism.

Wink’s love of photography began in the 1980s when she was a teenager working on her high school newspaper and yearbooks. She later honed her print media skills working for a small bi-weekly newspaper in North Louisiana where she developed a strong love of black and white film photography as well as environmental portraiture.

Though life circumstances led Wink into the sciences and into medical sales, in 2006, her heart drew her back behind the lens. Southern writer Eudora Welty’s photography and the field collection work of folklorist Alan Lomax ultimately inspired Wink to reacquaint herself with documentary-style photography and journalism.

After a year of exploring several personal projects, Wink found full-time employment with the American Press. Her storytelling skills have received high praise from the newspaper’s editors and readers. Wink’s photography has been published in newspapers and publications across the nation, perhaps most notably in the San Francisco Chronicle and Sports Illustrated.
