Passivity provides no protection

“One is responsible for one’s own life. Passivity provides no protection”.~ Madeleine Kunin
One year has passed since I ventured back into photojournalism. This has been one crazy year. It started slow but then I relocated to Southwest Louisiana. Hurricanes, helicopters, air boats, and lots of sports– I have relished all of it. My skills [...]

the write words

Writing does not come easy for me. However (in my opinion) the changing shape of media will require all journalists to write a coherent story.  Recently, I have jumped into the practice of writing beyond a simple narrative for 2 assignments for our art & entertainment section, “The Marquee“. Both pieces do accompany audio slideshows. [...]

John and Gervis

These young guys are true inspirations to every baby boomer. John and Gervis did their time in the work force while playing their music part-time. Then they retired. Now they invest their free time into their music.

rockin’ southern blues

My musical expertise is not expansive; in fact it is quite simple. I know two things: what music touches my soul and what music makes my rear shake. Michelle Malone’s Sugarfoot LP does both. Go check out her page and take a listen.
If you ever get the opportunity to see her perform live, [...]

Bakersfield Rocks the MUM

Two bands from Bakersfield, CA found their way to the Meridian Underground Saturday Night. Both bands are hard core to say the least. Athens can be found here: http://www.myspace.com/athens777 and A Legion of Thieves can be found here, http://www.myspace.com/alegionofthieves.
Sandwiched between these two hardcore metal heads was a little band from Houston, TX called [...]

Jackson’s First Lady of Jazz & Blues

Blown away, I was literally blown away by Rhonda Richmond’s voice, stage presence, and musical soul. I can only hope my photographs do her justice. Check her out on myspace and her web page.

live at the echo

With their own mix of southern rock and country, All Around Hounds rocked the Echo Lounge this past Thursday night. Logan Comby of the Dark Sundays even surprised us with a guest set of his folksy rock. Meridian has a wealth of talent and great original music, if you know where to find it.

Underground Meridian

Meridian Underground Music hosted an eclectic show this past Saturday with Logan Comby, Green Lights, Werewolf Casey, Mordechai, and The Haddonfield Massacre performing. Sounds range from folk, rock, experimental, and post punk. I am quite impressed with the local talent. Thanks for inviting me out!
